Whether you’re mapping out seams on marine vinyl, sketching a pattern on canvas, or tracing lines on leather, the right marking tool can make all the difference. At Albright’s Supply, we carry a range of reliable, professional-grade options to help you get accurate results without damaging your materials.

Chalk: Clean, Simple, and Temporary
Chalk is a go-to for many upholsterers who need light, temporary markings. It’s ideal for use on fabric and vinyl, where it often brushes off or disappears on its own. While it may not be the best option when you need long-lasting pattern lines, it’s excellent for quick marks that won’t leave a trace.
We carry two great options:

China Markers: Bold and Versatile
China Markers, also known as grease pencils, are designed for nonporous surfaces like plastic, glass, metal, and rubber. They lay down bold, water-resistant lines that stay put but are still easy to remove from smooth finishes. Avoid using them on fabrics, as they may stain.
Available in black, white, and yellow, these markers come with an easy peel-off wrapper and require no sharpening. Sold in boxes of 12.
Fisher Space Pens are a favorite among upholstery pros for marking vinyl, leather, and rubber. Their silver ink shows up clearly on both light and dark surfaces and stays put while you work—making them ideal for precise, detailed pattern work. With a fine-point tip, they’re great for sharp lines, and the ink can be wiped away cleanly with dish soap and water when you're done. Space Pens write at any angle (even upside down!) and perform in extreme temperatures.
Important: The ink is not removable from cloth, so keep it off your woven fabrics.

Need a dependable mark that suits your material and workflow? Each of these tools offers unique advantages depending on what you’re working with—vinyl, leather, fabric, or hard surfaces. Choosing the right one ensures smoother sewing, cleaner lines, and a more professional finish.
